About us
We're a 100 percent Brazilian company, with a continuous history dating back to 1991. Pioneers in the industrialization of lithium in Brazil, since the early years, we have run an integrated operation: underground mining of lithium bearing pegmatite - processing of lithium concentrate - production of high purity lithium chemical compounds. Our operations are based in the municipalities of Araçuaí, Itinga and Divisa Alegre, cities located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, in northeastern Minas Gerais.

In the lithium industry, we are the only company in Brazil and one of the few in the world with integrated ore-concentrate-chemical compound technology. We operate vertically, i.e., from the extraction of natural resources to their transformation into high-purity lithium products:

The chemical compounds featured above are used in a wide range of industries that are relevant to the global economy and sustainability, such as the pharmaceutical, glass and ceramics, lubricant grease and, above all, electric mobility and nuclear energy industries.

For over 30 years, we have been working in a segment that has grown dramatically in recent years around the world and which has increasingly seen the participation of players with no relevant experience. As one of the few companies with the longest continuous and integrated operations, our know-how is invaluable to our industry.
Our focus is on valuing human beings, which is why safety is our main operational pillar, along with our role in the social development of the Jequitinhonha Valley - still one of the areas in Minas Gerais in greatest need of development.
Our history
Companhia Brasileira de Lítio was founded in 1985 by Brazilian partners as a private limited company. Our production started in 1991 and have been operating continuously ever since.

At first, we faced great difficulties in implementing and operating the project, especially as it was an underground mine located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, at the time one of the most deprived regions in the country, lacking the appropriate resources and infrastructure for high-end industry.
​
In contrast to the situation in those years, the cities of Araçuaí, Itinga and Divisa Alegre are now development hubs in the region.

Over the three decades we have been operating, we have fostered social development and established partnerships with research institutions.
Safety of employees
Our greatest commitment is to ensure the full safety of our employees. We conduct our operations at the mining units and the chemical plant with the utmost attention to all occupational safety issues, always striving to achieve the goal of zero accidents in all activities carried out within the company.

To this end, we carry out preventive measures, adopt occupational risk management practices and encourage the establishment of an occupational safety culture. In more than 30 years, our units have never experienced any severe accidents involving employees.
